Abstract

Nosocomial infection is defined as an infection that is not apparent when the patient is admitted to hospital or other healthcare facility. The period for diagnosis of a nosocomial infection will be dependent on the incubation period of the specific infection. Candida albicans is defined as a diploid fungus, which can grow in both yeast and filamentous cell forms. There is a high rate of nosocomial infection by C. albicans in different parts of the world; however, there are limited data about the infection by C. albicans in Iran. It is clear that the nosocomial infection by C. albicans is a problematic issue worldwide. C. albicans as a cause of nosocomial infection and its prevalence is not clear in Iran and it seems necessary to focus more on C. albicans as a cause of nosocomial infections in Iran hospitals.
